So lightly i have been reading through Acts, well actually i just started again.. Bible school kinda takes out the fun of reading the bible.. unfortunately .. you have to press in harder to actually read the word of God. Recently i have been challenged in my life of things i don't need. Being a slave to the extra things, once by my sister who is also being challenged in the way of money and such.. and then once by cj block who spoke at a conference called sno-fear in willams lake.
But as i said i have been slowly going through Acts.. and in Acts 2:45, it talks of selling their possessions and giving the out come to people who need.. Some verses i have been reading are 2 corinthans 9:6-14, which takes also about giving generously..
question? how much of their possessions? are we suppose to sell everything we have? are we suppose live on faith alone? theres many examples of missionary's who have lived off of God, are we suppose to? do we ask for money and receive?
So heres what iam going to do, right now i am saying everything is in God's possession, So everything that i have bought out of my own hard work, with out passing it through GOd is now for sale! This includes everything from my stereo, camera, ipod, cds... From this moment the money that is in my hand is Gods, every purchase big or small has to pass by God..
My compy is in the list too, its just going to be hard to do homework and stay in touch with fellows back home if God takes it away from me..
So any thoughts? is this to rash?

wow man sounds pretty intense. You and i are black and white thinkers and everyonce in a while its good to remember the world has a large amount of gray in it. And God made this world so i think he wanted there to be gray. And to me this is deffinetly a gray area i mean i have a lot of possesions and our world teaches us to strive for more possesions more wealth and all though i do not believe that is what God has called us to do i do believe that God provides us with things. How many times has your car or your compy helped you do Gods work? your doing it right now. How many times has your cd's brought up an interesting point that people have talked about. To be honest i dont know the answer and i don't think there is an answer to how much to give up. I guess thats between you and God. My two cents would be though are you giving it up because thats what you think "your supposed to do" or is it "what God has asked of you?" "doing the right thing is only doing the right thing if done for the right reasons."

Context buddy. Although, this doesn't mean...okay, one thing at a time.
In Acts where it speaks of that, it also mentions things like how 'All the believers were together and had everything in common.' This is then followed by,'Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.' That's Acts 2:44-45. These people were in different circumstances.
So, I guess I'm trying to say that you don't have to go give everything up because these people in this story did. But, they were doing it for God. People were happy, and they glorified God. So, maybe don't put the 'for sale' sign on everything just yet. Talk it through with the big man. If you still feel that's what he says, go for it buddy. I don't know if I could do that. The purpose might not be that we have to give everything, but be willing to give everything at a moments notice for God.
SO heres an add on to my orignal post.. More or less i am giving this stuff to God.. if he wants me to sell it, its Gone..
This is why.. All of this stuff i bought without titheing.. when i was working.. not a red cent.. i passed it all off by saying iam helping with youth group and buying people coffees.. but i wasn't giving my 1o%. I didn't really pass anything past God either, i just went out and bought it..
SO now all the stuff that i bought without passing through Gods hands first, and anything that was bought when i didn't tithe is now in Gods hands, if he wants me to sell it, i will..
And to comment on your comment reid.. I think if iam trying to follow what God is telling me and being obiedent to it .. then i think its for the right reasons..
God may not have called us to give away everything. But I think he does desire surrender. "...whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." (Matthew 10:39b (NIV))
and "offer your bodies as living sacrifices..."
(Romans 12:1 (NIV))
I don't think God is necessarily calling everyone to give up everything they have. However, if I feel that I have too much control, then it is doing myself a favor by letting God take the reins isn't it?
This isn't the right thing by itself. But I believe that it is good because it's definitely the right reasons.
God is definitely big enough to handle Someone giving their stuff away... He also doesn't need it though. If it's an act of honoring Him and devotion, then I believe that he will not only support but also mold the vulnerable clay that has become.
(Just a thought)
He might bring this about very apparently,
"But even if he does not..."
(Daniel 3:18 (NIV))
United in Truth,
Hi there
i agree with mc submition to Gods athority is the whole story. Some things he may want you to sell or give up ,but other things he might want to use it ,our for you to use it to his glory. be aware of that still small voice, that will ask you to do some thing or give something....
